Starting from modest origins in Osun state, and now influencing global policies

Adejimi Adeniji is not your ordinary mathematician; he is a visionary leader with a mission to make a profound impact on the world.

With over 15 years of experience in teaching and groundbreaking research, Adejimi’s journey began in the bustling heart of Mushin, Lagos, Nigeria. From these humble beginnings, he embarked on an extraordinary voyage that took him across continents and allowed him to touch lives in ways that are nothing short of breathtaking.

My journey in academia has seen me nurture the minds of countless graduate students, guiding them towards academic excellence and instilling in them a profound understanding of mathematical principles as an applied mathematician in infectious disease, epidemiology, and sociological processes. Beyond the confines of the classroom, I have consistently leveraged my mathematical prowess to provide invaluable insights to policymakers, shaping public health interventions with my astute recommendations. Through this, I have been able to travel to several countries across three continents (Africa, North America, and Oceania) with the possibility of Asia.

A Global Scholar on a Quest for Excellence

Adejimi’s academic odyssey began at the University of Ado-Ekiti (now known as Ekiti State University), where he earned his B.Sc (Hons) in Mathematics. Hungry for knowledge, he pursued his M.Sc in Mathematics at the prestigious University of Lagos. But Adejimi’s thirst for knowledge knew no bounds, and he ultimately earned his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the esteemed Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, South Africa.

Transforming Lives Through Education

Adejimi’s relentless pursuit of excellence didn’t stop at his Ph.D. Upon completion, he embraced his calling as a postdoctoral research fellow, dedicating his expertise to addressing critical issues at the intersection of academia and industry, with a particular focus on infectious diseases epidemiology and migration and unemployment

A Scholar Who Gives Back

Adejimi Adeniji is not just a scholar; he’s a catalyst for change. In 2021, he made a commitment to give back to his community. Through his influential social media platform, he organizes inspiring webinars on how to secure life-changing scholarship opportunities. He shares daily scholarship opportunities, spanning STEM and non-STEM fields, to empower underrepresented individuals with the keys to success. Beyond that, he serves as a mentor to prospective scholars, nurturing their dreams and helping them achieve their full potential.

Championing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)

As a trailblazer in equity, diversity, and inclusion, Adejimi founded the Black in Mathematics Association (BMA). This dynamic community bridges the worlds of graduate scholars, researchers in academia, and industry professionals, fostering a sense of unity and purpose. Dr. Adeniji is an exceptional individual who has fostered meaningful relationships both within and beyond the academic community. I first crossed paths with him during a webinar in 2021, and following our initial encounter, I reached out to him via email. To my surprise and delight, he graciously accepted my request for mentorship, showcasing his willingness to support and guide aspiring individuals in their academic and professional journeys. In 2022, faced with the potential loss of a scholarship due to visa delays, Dr. Adeniji went above and beyond by personally intervening on my behalf. He took the initiative to write emails to the Minister of Home Affairs, urging the expedited processing of my visa. His advocacy proved to be instrumental as my visa was approved, allowing me to join my host institution the following month. Despite not having had the opportunity to meet in person, Dr. Adeniji's unwavering support has significantly contributed to both my personal and professional growth. Moreover, Dr. Adeniji is the visionary founder of the burgeoning Black in Mathematics Association, a testament to his deep commitment to community engagement. Dr. Adeniji' embodies the right energy that allows for building relationships with others. On many occasions, he has availed himself to collaborate with me in providing scholarship information for free to people on a global stage. He has over the years also built a platform where he mentors young people on issues around mathematics. Through his platform and mentorship, scholarship information has become democratised. I am never in doubt whenever I need to collaborate with Dr. Adeniji. He is an all round relationship builder and keeper, collaborator and mentor. I knew Dr. Adeniji through out mutual interest in supporting people to gain admission and scholarships. His selflessness sold him out when he constantly invested time in sharing knowledge for free. Although a Mathematics expert, his sound knowledge and expertise on scholarship matters was uncontested. We quickly bonded as we had a common ground. He was always willing to support people from all around the world to gain the right knowledge and skillset that will position them for the global stage. Dr. Adeniji is a true selfless leader.
